I viewed “Time to Grow.”  The main point of the session was that we educators must grow professionally continually, especially in the area of technology.  The presenters suggested that you imbed a time of Research and Development 2-3 times for 15 minutes each week.  However, the problem with this strategy is that most educators aren’t pursuing technological professional growth because they do not know where to even begin.

A majority of the presentation was on the “flat classroom.”  (This is using technology in the classroom to interact with people/places/resources outside of the classroom on a regular basis, thereby breaking the traditional confines of all teaching taking place within the four walls of the classroom.)  The session was worth viewing, although, I still haven’t really found a presentation on technology in the secondary mathematics classroom.

    Hey There,

Just checked out some of your blogs and reflections to date on ’23 things’. Some great work! The ‘flat classroom’ and your reflections on educators growing prefessionally with regard to technology is certainly valid, and even more so with regard to Web 2.0 tools. I for one engaged with ’23 Things’ because I was certainly one those who’ did not know where to start’. However I have S.L.O.W.L.Y developed a few skills and it is exciting to be able to comlete the tasks each week.

In addition to teacher professional development with tech/web 2.0 tools, there alos needs to be opportunities made for them to develop in this area. Just as important schools also need to provide opportunites for parents to learn and understand the kinds of this their children are exposed to and the technology there are learing about at school and also, almost intuitively through their social networking it the cyber/digital world.

Hi … I note that you have not yet found “a presentation on technology in the secondary mathematics classroom.”. May I suggest that you investigate Darren Kuropatwa’s blog called “A Difference” at: http://adifference.blogspot.com/

Darren taught high school Mathematics in a neighbouring high school and has been a leading blogger in the province of Manitoba.

Check out his “I’ve Got 5 Minutes” Slidecast presentation to get a glimpse of how is class is organized.

Take care & keep smiling :-) Brian
